Sorry but there are no diary events
Formed on the bank of Portland Harbour early 2001 the Weymouth & Portland Kite Surfing Club is arguably the oldest kite surf club in the UK if not the world. Some 12 years ago the club was formed from the Parasite Academy the forerunner of the now legendary Paracademy and subsequently Paracademy Extreme. The founder of the club Neil Godbold (Yoda) is one of the world's leading instructor trainers and one of the founders of the BKSA (British Kite Surfing Association) and arguably one of the characters of kitesurfing internationally. Neil is now responsible for the Kite Tour Asia kiteboarding competition series.
Paracademy Extreme in partnership with Geosync E-Commerce Systems are about to launch a brand new kite surfing shop both on and offline from their centre at Portland Harbour, Weymouth.
The original name of the club was Vulture Bank and was so named due to the location of Paracademy and a rather handy viewing bank where kite surfers would gather and pick over the broken bones of many a poorly performed trick. Whether or not the particular members could actually do the trick in question was not for discussion but rather an opportunity for the immortal words "That HAS to hurt..." as the unfortunate kiteboarder hurtled through the sky and crashed unceremoniously into the shallow waters of Portland Harbour. We're not so sure anyone really got hurt but it was extremely entertaining and then there were the immortal words - "I've got ALL SUMMER to kite..." swiftly followed by a smash and a trip to casualty...
The terms Vulture Bank has been coined in as far off places as Boracay in the Philippines, Egypt, Vietnam, Thailand in fact almost anywhere there's a kitesurfer attempting something they probably really don't have the skill to do.
The ideal waters for kite surfing are also home of the 2012 Olympic sailing events. Portland Harbour was chosen to host the event because quite simply the conditions for sailing and kitesurfing are almost perfect!
The WPKSC aims to promote the safe conduct of kite surfers using Portland Harbour. This is done in conjunction with the BKSA and also Portland Port the harbour authority. Close liaison with the two and the clubs code of conduct ensure the sport thrives in our unique location.
Paracademy has been giving top quality, professional Kite Surfing Courses and Power Kite Lessons since 1999 making it one of the oldest and best established kite surfing and powerkite centres in the world. With over 14 years experience our centre and its IKO accredited instructors are recognised throughout the world for the quality of teaching standards and level of competence shown by our former students.
Based on the shores of the World Heritage Coastline of Weymouth & Portland we have access to some of the best kitesurfing water available in the United Kingdom.
