Club AGM 27th January 2010
MINUTES OF WEYMOUTH AND PORTLAND KITESURFING CLUB AGM 1930, 27th JANUARY 2010
At: Paracademy, Masonic Car Park, Victoria Square, Portland, Dorset.
Present: JIM ANDERSON (CHAIR), MIKE SMITH (TREASURER), LUCIE WILLIAMS, GRAHAM DAVIS (part of the meeting), ANDREW JOHNSON, JASON YEOMAN, DEREK JOHNSON, SPENCER WHYTE, PHIL COX, JAMES ADAMS, MARTIN CRABBE
Apologies: Alan Baker and his assistant, Evan.
HARBOUR FEES
JA has received an email from the Port and they are generally happy with the way things are being run with regard to kitesurfing. Evan is keeping an eye on things, but members should still approach people at the beach about permits etc. If they are uncooperative ring Evan on the following numbers: TEL: 01305 824044 MOB: 07795 955933 This is the 3rd year of the current agreement with regards to fees, there being no increase this year. However, Alan Baker has advised that there will be a small increase next year. So this year the fees are a total of £20 (£15 harbour dues, £5 for the Club). MS e mails the Port every month with a list of members who have joined, so they know who is a member. GD raised the subject of windsurfers, he would like evidence that the windsurfers are paying their harbour dues too? DJ suggested we do this under FOI request? Some debate followed around this subject, LW pointed out that we get a reduced rate because we are paying through the Club (£15 per year rather than £24.95 per year), so there are benefits to being in the Club. It was agreed that things would continue as current, and see if Evan and Alan do more with regards to windsurfers this year. Suggested that the Port approach the newly formed windsurf club to ensure they are paying their dues. Literally.
ACCOUNTS
The latest accounts MS has (November 2009) show a balance of £2,031. At last year’s AGM we had discussed buying premium bonds, but these cannot be bought as a club, only as an individual person. Suggested we could buy lottery tickets - £1 a week on a lucky dip! MS to set up. There was further discussion about what we could spend club funds on. Inflatable Kicker; Inflatable buoy to use as a kicker; club holiday, subsidised from club fees; Helmet cam. Suggestion of a GPS was well received. We could have a speed board up in Paracademy, with a £50 prize (from Club funds) to the fastest time over the year.
MEMBERSHIP
MS confirmed the membership fee for 2010 at £20, and advised we currently have 80 members from London, Bristol and Ireland for example, as well as locals. We still get £5 per member from the BKSA for those members that join through the BKSA website. This probably brings in the club a couple of hundred pounds a year, so it worth doing. Windtek did have a supply of forms for people turning up there and wanting to join, but not sure if this is still the case as Richard Fabbri is no longer working there.
WEBSITE
DJ advised that the current website is a temporary site, and will be improving. He is looking at linking it better with the Club’s Facebook page. There used to be 50-60 comments a week on the Bog Wall, now there are 10 if lucky, so is quite “static” at present. DJ says future site will have a decent for sale page, and a gallery (for pics of Loo! J), with better links with Paracademy website. WPKSC and Paracademy sites should be “cross-pollinating” each other. Agreed it would also be good if members can join on line. DJ is happy to continue working on the Club website, and hopes to update the site within a month. He was thanked for his time and effort working on the site.
SOCIAL
It was agreed at the AGM that there would be a social event at the Balti Curry House on Commercial Road on 20th March 2010, at 7.30pm. Meet at the William Henry at 7pm. A notice to be put on website, and e mail sent out advising members. Notice of members attendance required by 1st March, and once JA and MS have an idea of numbers, how much the Club is prepared to subsidise the meal will be agreed. Further dates for social events will be agreed at the Curry – e.g. two BBQs (one each at the beginning and end of the summer) and another curry night in the autumn.
RESIGNATIONS
JA and MS prepared to stay on as Chairman and Treasurer respectively. No one else expressed an interest in taking over either post.
AOB
Apparently some kiters have been practising course racing way out in the harbour. Please be advised that there is a deep water channel there that the larger boats have to use, particularly on extreme spring tides. If something happens to a kiter whilst in the deep water channel, there is no way a large vessel can avoid him, so please do not kite here. The risk assessment for the harbour (on the website) to be updated to include this information. JA Meeting closed at 2050.
Thanks to Spencer for use of Paracademy for the meeting.
