Sorry but there are no diary events
As our members will doubtless be aware Portland Port require members of the Weymouth & Portland Kite Surfing Club to purchase a harbour permit before using the harbour. This is currently done when a member joins or updates through the BKSA. Having recently looked at the cost of joining our club we are perceived as being the most expensive. Essentially every other club is an additional £5 or £10 then when you come to WPKSC it's a staggering £20 on top of BKSA membership! Well, we propose the following to be discussed with the committee and then with Portland Port Authority.
The club makes every effort to ensure it's members have insurance but we should not have to police the permit system. The club will issue a list of those who have paid their permits to Portland Port and let them police it which includes providing a tag or some sort of receipt for the money our members are paying. This will remove the responsibility for policing the permits from the club because after all Portland Port earn a heck of a lot more than WPKSC.
We think that it is not us who should force the permit scheme but rather those who brought the scheme into fruition. This might help the cause to ensure ALL users of the harbour pay the permit and not just our members.
To sum up - YOU are soon to be responsible for purchasing your permit and not the club. The club will remove itself from the responsibility of gathering money and paying extra to generate tags for them too! We would like to remind our members that you are obliged to obtain a harbour permit before kite surfing in Portland Harbour.
Members thoughts are welcome prior to the committee approaching Portland Port.
